A print pixel in digital marketing is a tiny image, one wide by one high (1×1 px) that is inserted into the code of a web page or page element and used to count the number of prints.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PRINT PIXEL 🖨️

Impressions in the digital world are the moments when a user is exposed to or encounters advertising content. It doesn’t matter if you pay attention to it or not, nor does it matter if you take an action on this content (click, download, read…). The advertising content is “served,” “offered,” or downloaded to the user, and each time this happens it is counted by the print pixel, also known as the tracking pixel, control pixel, or tracking pixel. In display advertising, rich media formats, and mass emails, this element is critical to quantifying how many times content is displayed to users.

The print pixel helps us measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Knowing how many people saw an ad is a basic metric that informs us about return on investment. Measuring the performance of online advertising campaigns gives us a clear view of what changes are most appropriate to improve results. What can’t be measured, can’t be improved.

HOW DOES IT WORK? ⚙️

When the user enters the page carrying the tracking pixel, their IP address makes a request to the advertiser’s server. The print pixel is transparent, the user does not perceive it but it is downloaded to his computer when he opens the page.

The user’s IP is logged by the advertiser’s server and the users who saw the ad are counted. If 12,000 different IP addresses requested the pixel, 12,000 people are considered to have viewed the ad; although in practice an IP can be shared by more than one user and from different computers.

Pixel impressions are a secure system for tracking digital advertising. They do not change the configuration of the user’s computer and do not collect any personal data from the user, but only work with the IP.
