In today’s collaborative environment, the ability to manage document versions and customize interfaces is crucial for efficient workflows. Zoho Writer offers powerful features that allow users to view and compare document versions, revert to previous drafts, and customize their interface to fit personal preferences. This article will guide you through using Zoho Writer’s version history and customization options, helping you tailor the software to your specific needs.
Viewing and Comparing Document Versions
When collaborating on a document, edits and tangential ideas can sometimes derail your initial focus. Zoho Writer’s version control feature ensures that you can always revert to earlier drafts, preserving your work’s integrity.
Viewing a Document’s History
Zoho Writer automatically saves each version of your document, capturing every change. To view the history:
- Open the document.
- Click the History link above the Formatting toolbar.
This action opens the History page, which displays the latest version of the document by default. To view other versions, select the desired version from the Show Version drop-down menu.
While viewing the document history, you are in a snapshot view and cannot edit. This will bring back that draft as the active document.
If you only want to return to the current version without reverting to an older one, click the Edit link to go back to the main editor.
Comparing Versions
Zoho Writer also lets you compare two document versions to help identify specific changes. To compare versions:
- Open the document’s History page.
- Use the drop-down menus to select the two versions you want to compare.
- Click Show Diff.
Zoho Writer highlights the differences between the selected versions, making it easy to see changes. If you decide that one of these versions is the best fit, you can revert to it by selecting it from the left drop-down menu and clicking Revert.

Zoho Writer’s spellchecker also includes regional language variations, such as British, Australian, and U.S. English, allowing you to tailor spellcheck to specific dialects.
Advanced Customization Options
Zoho Writer offers additional settings that provide more control over your workspace. You can adjust these settings by selecting Options and then Settings:
- Show Toolbar: Hides the Formatting toolbar at the top of the editor. Note that hiding the toolbar may limit certain editing options.
- Show Ruler: Displays or hides the ruler, which helps align text.
- Display the Status Bar: Simply uncheck this box to disable it if you’d rather it not be visible.
