How to Advertise on Yahoo in 2026

Search ads on Yahoo run through Microsoft Advertising. Display, native, audio, digital out-of-home and connected TV ads run through Yahoo DSP. Pick the route by the ad format you want.

Search ads: start in Microsoft Advertising

  1. Create a Microsoft Advertising account.
  2. Build a search campaign and an ad group with your keywords. You pay per click, as in any pay-per-click (PPC) campaign.
  3. Under ad distribution, keep the entire Microsoft Advertising Network. Microsoft recommends this setting, and it includes Yahoo search partners.
  4. After the campaign runs, open the website URL report and exclude the sites that do not convert.

Display and native ads: Yahoo DSP

Yahoo DSP is a programmatic platform for connected TV, native, audio, digital out-of-home and display ads. New buyers start with the Contact Us link on its page, and Yahoo Academy offers DSP certification. The page publishes no minimum spend.

Realize, Taboola’s ad platform, says its Yahoo partnership lets you run Yahoo ads from its own dashboard with self-service tools. The same page says the direct or DSP route takes at least a few thousand dollars a month. Realize sells the competing route, and the page dates from April 2025. Yahoo publishes no minimum on its DSP page, so treat that figure as a rough guide.

What Happened to the Old Yahoo Programs

Older guides, this one included, listed Express Submission, the Yahoo Directory, Yahoo Premium and paid placement in Local, Shopping and Travel. The Directory closed in December 2014. The Yahoo DSP page lists none of the others as a channel, so ask Yahoo before you budget for one.

Yahoo Ads FAQ

Is there a Yahoo AdWords?

No. AdWords was Google’s product, and Google renamed it Google Ads on 24 July 2018. The closest route for Yahoo search ads is Microsoft Advertising, which also charges per click.

Can I show search ads only on Yahoo?

Not through any setting Microsoft documents. Ad distribution has two options, the entire network or Microsoft sites and select traffic, and neither is Yahoo only. You can read the website URL report and exclude specific sites.

Is the Yahoo Directory still open?

No. Yahoo closed it in December 2014.

How much do Yahoo ads cost?

Search runs on bids you set in Microsoft Advertising, so you pay per click. The Yahoo DSP page publishes no minimum spend, so ask Yahoo for a quote.

Google renamed AdWords to Google Ads in July 2018, and this section keeps the old name. Some features below are older still. Google retired Google Checkout in November 2013, so check Google Ads Help before you plan around any of them.

Navigating Google AdWords: More Than Just Bids

A crucial aspect of Google AdWords sets it apart from other PPC services: ad placement isn’t solely determined by bid amount. Google’s Quality Score, assessing the relevance and quality of ads, plays a vital role in ad positioning. This means advertisers cannot merely outbid competitors to secure top positions. A well-crafted ad with a high click-through rate (CTR) and an effective landing page can achieve prominent placement without excessive spending.

  • Google Checkout for Ads: Ads can now include a badge indicating support for Google’s built-in checkout, enhancing trust and convenience for customers.
  • Click-to-Call Ads: This feature enables consumers to request a callback or directly call your sales office through VOIP, adding a personal touch to your digital ads.
