It was a quick overview of each and every part of a UX design. In this article, we will discuss the visual design of a UX.

Why Visual Design Important

The visual design for a UX is one of the most important parts. It is mainly what your audience sees, and what they interact with. A really good visual design has the ability to lure a lot of users and customers in.

The more people interact with your user interface visual design, the more you get potential customers. In return, that means more conversions and more sales. Now, who wouldn’t want that?

Visual Design – Creating a Good Experience

In able for your website visitors to turn into customers, however, they need to have a great experience on your website. It is not just offering them a good service or product. The first thing they see is your website or your application, so you need to make a good first impression.

Their first impression comes from the look and feel of your website. This means the color scheme, the graphics and the overall design elements that are used must be great.

In today’s fast-paced and technologically-advanced world, people are getting more and more intolerant of websites that do not look good. They are also less trustful of websites that do not look credible.

Do not get us wrong, a good website doesn’t necessarily need to be an art installation to be good. Instead, treat it us a design project where the fundamentals of a good design is applicable.

You do not necessarily need a lot of flair and artistic touches to a website. In fact, the simpler your layout is, the better. This way, it is less confusing for your audience. But make sure that it looks good, and it looks credible.

Ways To Make Your Website Look Good & Credible

Good Teamwork

Most of the visual design expertise will come from the talent and skills of your graphic designer. However, your graphic designer won’t be able to make a great design if your UX practitioner doesn’t know the following principles of visual design. In able to make a great visual design, there needs to be great teamwork and constant communication between each team.

Colour

As we mentioned in a previous article, color plays an important role in visual design. Your color scheme needs to be on point and stay on brand.

Psychologically, color affects people in an incredible way. There are certain colors that brighten the mood, helps people feel calm and trustful, while some colors make people uncomfortable.

People interpret and react to colors in very specific ways based on each and everyone’s preferences and learned cues. A great designer knows that colors can be used to inform and steer the user’s experience for your benefit.

So, when you are in the process of choosing the color palette for your website, keep in mind the legibility and accessibility concerns. For instance, using a lot of open or white space (keeping the website straight, simple and crisp) makes it appear simple and easy to read.

Images

The images you use for your website also play a huge role in how the users behave and interact with your website. With this in mind, you need to be careful about your choice of images you use.

This part is a little bit tricky because one can never be quite certain about which images will work and which ones will not. For this part, you will need to do a lot of testing (probably even worth to try a few split testing to see which images work best.)

As with colors, you need to keep the images on the brand. Keep in mind that humans tend to gravitate towards and identify with photos of other human beings.

So, as much as possible, use photos of real people. We, as human beings, have the innate instinct to look at other’s faces in able to understand the feelings and the mood.

Website Structure

The structure of the website mostly comes from the UX designer or practitioner. We also discussed this briefly in our article, Step-by-Step Guide to UX design and Understanding UX Design. We highly suggest reading these articles for a more detailed understanding of UX design.

With this in mind, the flow of the website needs to be easy for the audience to understand. For instance, the landing page or the homepage should contain navigational links to every page of your website so it is easy to follow.

You also need to make sure that it is convenient for your users to return to your homepage. You can do this by making your logo at your website’s header clickable. In-text URLs found in your web pages should also be highlighted and underlined so people know it is a clickable text.

It is the simple an most basic rules like the ones mentioned above that make a website easier to interact with. People are already used to in-text URLs and websites that are easy to navigate, so be sure you’re providing the same experience – but make it better if possible.

Testimonials

If you are offering a product or a service, testimonials from your previous customers and client helps make your website look more credible. When people see testimonials from fellow users and previous customers, they are more likely to trust your website.

When you are encouraging people to purchase, it is easier for them to click that “Buy Now” or “Sign Up Now” button if they see other people are doing it too. So, for every sale you get, it is highly advisable to ask people for their honest review.

Create a testimonials page on your website for your new audience to see. Chances are, they will be your new customers when they read how happy your current customers are.

These are only some of the best things you need to add to your website to make it look good and credible.
