This moment is considered to be the decision point for the purchase of a specific brand. A few years ago the important thing for any company was to master the “First Moment of Truth” or FMOT.

This term coined by Procter & Gamble in 2005 defined the First Interaction between the Customer and the Product or Service and is considered the most important marketing opportunity for a brand. To give you a simple example applied to a restaurant: a customer showed up at the door, looked at the menu, the prices and the feeling that the place gave him and decided whether to enter or not.
This is an impulsive decision taken in a few seconds and determined by the care of certain aspects related to the restaurant and its surroundings.

THE SOURCES OF THE FMOT ℹ️

Read a brochure about the product on sale

Talk to a seller or store partner

Look at the signage / display on the product in the store

Talk to a customer service representative on the phone

Try a sample / experience the product in a store

Coupon of used products I received in store

Use the computer in the store to search for product information

Redeem a gift card / premium card

Use a loyalty card / frequent purchase card

THE PRIORITY OF ZMOT 🛎️

However among sellers is now known that in the market these days the consumer is much more informed, more skilled in seeking the best value for money available, aware of the brand image and its respect for the values that interest the customer, such as its ecological or environmental dimension.
According to a study of 2009 (the latest study of IRI on economic longitude of 2009) (https://scalarly.com/marketing-book/it/wiki/zmot-zero-moment-of-truth-2/):

83% of consumers make their purchasing decisions before entering the store.

According to Nielsen, 90% of consumers trust the recommendations of people they know,

70% are confident in the recommendations that consumers publish online

and only 62% are confident in TV commercials.

The figure increases by an incredible 150% if we talk about Pizza (people looking for a pizzeria on the Internet before going to the local

HOW TO MANAGE THE FMOT 💼

If the user is in a physical store, the work of persuasion falls on the packaging, POP material, demonstrators, guides, brochures, etc. your brand must:

Offer specific products, including product availability, pricing and shipping information.

Provide opinions, ratings, customer stories and testimonials.

Include your physical address, phone number and email contacts.

If it is a digital commitment, customers come to make the purchase; they are looking for answers to specific questions. If you don’t supply them, others in their network, including your competitors, will. A good example of social interaction at a point of purchase is TripAdvisor, which shares other users’ comments and ratings as well as customers can book their trips.

<span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center;
